Conflict

A deep practice intensive on working with conflict as a structural feature of organizational life, not a problem to eliminate.

About This Intensive

An extended, practice-intensive session on conflict in organizations. Conflict is inevitable in mission-driven work; the question is whether the organization has the conditions and practices to move through it. This intensive teaches participants how to understand conflict structurally, respond to it skillfully, and build organizational capacity to hold conflict without it becoming destructive.

We'll cover:

  • How conflict functions in organizations: what generates it, what escalates it, and what resolves it
  • The difference between interpersonal conflict and structural conflict, and why the distinction changes the response
  • How to stay present and regulated during conflict rather than avoiding or escalating
  • How to facilitate conflict between others when you are not a party to it
  • How to assess whether a conflict is a problem to solve or a polarity to manage
  • How to build organizational capacity for holding conflict, drawing from restorative practice and transformative justice

You'll leave with:

  • A conflict assessment framework for distinguishing types and levels of conflict
  • Practices for responding to conflict in real time
  • A plan for building conflict capacity on your team

Designed for: Leaders, managers, and practitioners in mission-driven organizations seeking professional development or continuing education credit.
