Burnout

A deep practice intensive on understanding burnout as a systemic condition and leading through it structurally.

About This Intensive

An extended, practice-intensive session on burnout in mission-driven organizations. Burnout is routinely treated as an individual problem requiring individual solutions (self-care, time off, mindset shifts). This intensive reframes burnout as a systemic condition produced by organizational structures and teaches participants how to recognize it, respond to it, and address the conditions that generate it. Drawing from the Conditions for Impact framework, participants will learn to see burnout as diagnostic information about the health of the system.

We'll cover:

  • The structural causes of burnout: workload, control, reward, community, fairness, and values alignment
  • How to distinguish between fatigue, demoralization, and burnout, and why the response differs
  • How burnout spreads through teams and organizations as a systemic pattern
  • How to assess your organization's burnout conditions honestly
  • How to intervene structurally rather than relying on individual coping strategies
  • How to lead through a period of organizational burnout without burning out yourself

You'll leave with:

  • A burnout conditions assessment for your team or organization
  • A structural intervention plan for addressing the conditions producing burnout
  • Personal practices for sustaining your own capacity while leading through organizational strain

Designed for: Leaders, managers, and practitioners in mission-driven organizations seeking professional development or continuing education credit.
