Build a Grantmaking Practice That Shares Power with Your Grantees

Redesign the specific touchpoints where power concentrates in the grantmaking process so grantees have real voice and dignity.

About This Workshop

A working session where foundation staff redesign the specific touchpoints in their grantmaking process where power concentrates: the application, the site visit, the reporting requirement, the renewal decision, the conversation about challenges. Each of these moments shapes the relationship between funder and grantee. This workshop examines them honestly and redesigns them so grantees have real voice, real choice, and real dignity in the process.

We Will Work On

  • Mapping every touchpoint in the grantmaking process where funder power shapes grantee experience
  • Assessing each touchpoint: where does the grantee have voice, where are they performing compliance, and where is trust being built or eroded
  • Redesigning priority touchpoints to increase grantee agency and reduce power distortion
  • Building feedback mechanisms so grantees can tell you how the process is landing
  • Designing implementation and accountability plans for the changes

This Workshop Results In:

  • A redesigned set of grantmaking practices with specific changes to priority touchpoints.

Designed for: Foundation staff teams. This workshop works best with the people who design and implement grantmaking processes together.
