Authority
A deep practice intensive on holding authority with integrity, clarity, and care.
About This Intensive
An extended, practice-intensive session on the practice of holding authority in mission-driven organizations. Authority is often held ambivalently in mission-driven settings: leaders may resist their own power, under-exercise it, or exercise it inconsistently. This intensive teaches participants how to hold authority with clarity and integrity, how authority interacts with trust and accountability, and how to lead from a position of power without replicating the dynamics they are trying to change.
We'll cover:
- The difference between authority, power, and control, and how each operates in organizations
- How ambivalent authority creates confusion, resentment, and dysfunction on teams
- How to exercise authority clearly while remaining relational and accountable
- How to make decisions when consensus is not possible and communicate those decisions with care
- How to hold authority across difference: when your identity or background complicates how your authority is received
- How to build a leadership practice grounded in both strength and humility
You'll leave with:
- An authority self-assessment for your current leadership context
- Practices for exercising authority with clarity and care
- A development plan for strengthening your relationship with your own authority
Designed for: Leaders, managers, and practitioners in mission-driven organizations seeking professional development or continuing education credit.
